Press Release: Friday 27th July 2018

New opportunities for ten unemployed young women in the Wrexham area guaranteed thanks to Flavell Wealth Management Ltd.

Wrexham-born charity WeMindTheGap is building a national reputation for the impact it is having on the lives of many unemployed young women, but a funding gap meant that the Wrexham 2018 traineeship was in jeopardy. Today WeMindTheGap is delighted to announce that the traineeship can now go ahead as planned in October of this year in Wrexham, all thanks to a £10,000 donation from the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation organised by their local representatives Flavell Wealth Management.

Rachel Clacher, Founder and Trustee of WeMindTheGap and Co-founder of Moneypenny says:

“We are delighted to join the hundreds of organisations that the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation supports across the country. Their donation via Flavell Wealth Management means that we now have the majority of funds required to run a traineeship for ten more unemployed young women in Wrexham from October of this year. Our vision is a world in which every young woman has the maturity, aspirations, confidence, independence and skills to have real choices in life and work, and it is wonderful that the St. James's Place Charitable Foundation and Flavell Wealth Management share that with us.”

Lynne Pierce, Client Relationship Manager at Flavell Wealth Management says:

“As part of the St. James's Place family we are privileged to be able to signpost impactful initiatives to their Charitable Foundation. We want to give our young people the skills, abilities and confidence to make a positive change to their lives and to the community in which they live, and supporting WeMindTheGap helps us in that endeavour. We can’t wait to meet the ten young Wrexham women who will benefit directly from our support.”

About WeMindTheGap

WeMindTheGap, originally born out of Moneypenny, runs six month paid traineeships during which ten young women at a time have a unique opportunity to develop skills, enjoy new experiences, broaden horizons, build friendships, grow confidence, discover talents, grow ambition and basically discover the power of having choices in life and work.

Referred by agencies such as Leaving Care, Youth Justice, Women’s Aid and local homeless hostels, candidates are unemployed young women, aged 18-30 who are often veterans of many work schemes, and for whom the system has run out of options.

Results to date have been outstanding by any measure:

  • 70% of participants move from being reliant on the state with few choices to leading totally independent lives with many choices.
  • It is estimated that participants move from costing the state approximately £25,000 to contributing circa £19,000 per annum. A net economic gain of £44,000 in six months.
  • A social return on investment of 1:3.7
  • For every £10 spent, an additional £7 is leveraged from likeminded employer partners and volunteers who share their time and expertise.

In 2017/18 the charity ran traineeships in three different communities, in Flintshire and Liverpool as well as Wrexham. Having now proven that their traineeship model works in different kinds of communities the charity is looking forward expanding further afield, growing the number of traineeships it runs to bring this unique opportunity to more under-served young women every year.
